Frequently Asked Questions

What happens during the initial assessment?

This 1 st session is your opportunity to get to know each other and most importantly for Sam to get to know you! During this session we aim to gain an insight into your goals and current challenges. It is a safe space to discuss your medical history, as well as your current eating patterns, behaviours and intake. At the end of the session, Sam will discuss the treatment options with you and afterwards you will receive a comprehensive dietetic letter, with recommendations for support.
During these sessions Sam will discuss your progress and any challenging experiences you may have had since the previous session. You may go through food and thought / symptom diaries, as well as discussing your experience / progress of any assignments you had been set. Using this feedback, Sam will work with you to develop your box of tools which can help you manage your symptoms.
Unfortunately, healing takes time and each journey is unique – so in truth, we cannot say. The amount of support required varies from individual to individual. Whilst some clients require weekly support sessions others require less frequent check in’s every 4 – 6 weeks, depending on your current situation, goals and progress. Many find 8 – 12 sessions are required to make sustainable changes, but ultimately, we are all individual and some changes may take longer than others. No matter how long it takes The Nourish Rooms will be here to support you for as long as you need. We’re here, no judgement, just individualised and honest care.
In its simplest terms, meal planning is a skill, used by many across the globe to help with budgeting, shopping lists, saving time, minimising food waste and to ensure your body is getting everything it needs. It can also be used as a tool to provide structure to eating patterns, which can be especially useful when making changes to eating behaviours, particularly in the absence of hunger and fullness cues. At The Nourish Rooms we provide individualised care, that is unique to you. Therefore, Sam will assess whether a structured meal plan may be beneficial for you, depending on your current relationship with food and what your specific difficulties are. If we agree it is, then, like all of the care at The Nourish Rooms, it will be a collaborative experience – acting as co-pilots on your recovery, we will design it together. It may look more like a template for your eating pattern throughout the day, with suggestions of the types and amounts of foods to be included at each mealtime personalised to meet your health needs. However, it will not be so specific to dictate exactly what to eat for every meal and snack. At The Nourish Rooms, we believe in equipping you with the skills to manage your condition and maintain your own health long term. Therefore, Sam will educate you on how to build balanced meals and snacks that meet your unique needs and help you meet and sustain your goals.
Not a problem! All consultations are online, and so no matter where you are based we will be able to support you.
Sam may ask you to have some blood tests and a physical health check to be conducted by your GP prior to / or following your initial assessment, depending on your medical history, current food intake and reported symptoms.
