POTS
Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (PoTS) is a type of dysautonomia or autonomic dysfunction, and describes a collection of symptoms, including, but not limited too; palpitations, dizziness, syncope / loss of consciousness, chest pain, gut and bladder dysfunction, alongside fatigue, muscle weakness and brain fog. These symptoms occur as a result of the abnormal functioning of the autonomic nervous system. Fortunately, symptoms can often be improved and managed with lifestyle changes.

At The Nourish Rooms we are experienced in helping individuals make modifications to their dietary patterns, behaviours, food intake and hydration, supporting them to optimise their nutrition, improve their symptoms and reduce the high symptom burden dysautonomia places on the individual and their carers.
Autonomic Dysfunction
Autonomic dysfunction occurs when the autonomic nervous system (ANS), which controls bodily functions we do unconsciously, such as heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, and temperature regulation fails to function properly. This dysregulation can lead to a wide range of symptoms, including dizziness, fainting, heart palpitations, digestive issues, fatigue, brain fog, alongside challenges with bladder control and temperature regulation. Conditions such as Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), Orthostatic Hypotension, and other forms of dysautonomia fall under this umbrella.

At The Nourish Rooms, we are experienced in supporting our patients manage their symptoms through personalised nutrition and lifestyle interventions. Our approach focuses on you as an individual, not just your diagnosis’. We aim to work with you to optimise your overall nutrition, hydration, electrolyte balance, blood sugar stability, and digestive health, to improve overall well-being and quality of life.
MCAS
This condition is where a particular immune cell in the body (mast cell’s), releases their signaling molecules or mediators (such as; Histamine, Cytokines and Proteases e.g. Tryptase) either:

  • Too Frequently
  • In too large quantities
  • In response to triggers that are not normally considered harmful

This over-activity of the Mast Cells can lead to a wide range of symptoms that affect multiple parts of the body, including, but not limited too; the respiratory system, urinary and gastrointestinal systems, as well as the urological, musculoskeletal and cardiovascular systems.

This can result in a wide range of symptoms across a range of body systems, such as; nasal congestion, wheezing, joint pain, bladder dysfunction, flushing, redness, hives, itching, swelling, brain fog, anxiety, rage, chest pain, low blood pressure, syncope, bloating, stomach cramps, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, extreme fatigue and even anaphylaxis.

Whilst each individual with MCAS has triggers unique to them, common triggers include; high histamine foods, food additives, alcohol, environmental toxins, mould, stress, illness, insect bites, exercise, changes in temperature and some medications.

At the Nourish Rooms we have supported several individuals navigate this complex condition, and support them to unpick their triggers, reduce restrictive eating and eventually help them to re-gain control over their life.
Histamine Intolerance
Histamine Intolerance is thought to occur due to a lack of an enzyme (diamine oxidase), which renders the body incapable of breaking down the histamine naturally released within our bodies, or consumed by us, within our foods and drinks. As a result, histamine accumulates in the body, resulting in symptoms such as migraines, dizziness, anxiety, insomnia, irregular heartbeat, low blood pressure, sore throat, alongside urinary and gastrointestinal symptoms.

At The Nourish Rooms we support our patients to optimise their nutrition and diversify their food intake, through a modified low histamine diet that is tailored to their bodies unique tolerance.

At the Nourish Rooms we are also experienced in supporting individuals suffering from disordered eating, or an eating disorder, alongside managing chronic health conditions. Therefore, we offer support that takes into consideration all aspects of your mental and physical health to provide a holistic and individualised path to recovery.
